An open letter to my son. April is Autism Awareness month and I honor you my little hero. Someday when you are a bit older I hope you will read this letter and know how much you are loved and cheered for. Until that day, it will wait for you in your email account with all the other letters we send you.
Have you ever considered the labels you wear because people have put them on you OR you have put them on yourself, more importantly the implications? How do you act because you believe are a certain “thing” is true? This question was posed to me and it changed my life.
Who can you ugly-cry with? There will be moments in any parents’ life of questioning and despair and in my memory I share, I hope to connect us all to fact we all share these moments. And, when these moments come sometimes the best support can come from the most unexpected places.
How do you support the people you love in your life and help them find their power? Is it words, hugs, maybe its a great song? Today I think I need to find an anthem for my son.
